Walk through any busy city, festival, or major event and you will find that inflatable installations have a unique ability to take over the environment. They introduce scale, color, and shape in a way that feels unexpected, turning everyday landscapes into something people notice and remember.

These custom inflatables function as marketing icons, immersive environments, and temporary public art. Whether places above a storefront, built into a walk-through experience, or installed in a public space, the goal is always to create something people engage with, photograph, and talk about. Inflatable Design Group is ready to help bring your ideas to life and meet those goals.
The Instagrammable Landmark
In high traffic areas, attention is everything. Inflatable installations work because they interrupt the expected and are impossible to miss. People don’t just walk past these giant inflatables. They stop, take a selfie, and tag the location.

For example, for the Kung Fu Panda 3 premiere at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles a massive Po replica served as the centerpiece of the premiere event. This inflatable installation provided a towering backdrop for the event, appearing in photos with performers, guests, and media coverage throughout the day.
Another example is the giant inflatable character replica we created of the pic character from Spiral: From the Book of Saw movie. This inflatable was installed above the Diamond Supply Co Building to announce the movie’s collabo with the clothing store as well as bring attention to the movie. With strategic red and blue lighting, the installation stayed visible at night while maintaining the film’s tone.

Projects like the Chauncey the Bear replica for the film Imaginary followed a similar approach. By placing the inflatable characters above traditional movie posters, the campaign transformed flat advertising into something dimensional. These types of installations create natural engagement. People stop, take photos, and share the experience, turning the installation into an organic marketing tool.
Immersive Spaces with Inflatable Installations
Inflatables can also serve as the venue itself for activations. These experiences create bubbles of alternate reality that change the sensory environment for guests and change how people experience the space. These activations create an immersive world that guests remember far longer than a traditional build designed with pop-up tents.

At a recent industry tradeshow, IDG collaborated with Elysian Brewing to create a 30 foot wide inflatable dome. This inflatable installation stood out from neighboring brand booths and invited guests inside, transporting them from a standard convention floor into a space designed to feel like a intergalactic setting, complete with black lights, star projections, and a custom bar serving Elysian beers like Space Dust IPA. The shift in atmosphere made the experience more memorable than a traditional booth.

Similar success has been seen with the adult cartoon Final Space, where a character-themed dome hosted intimate episode premieres and Q&A sessions with the cast and crew. Event at massive conventions like Comic-Con, brands like State Farm have used inflatable spaces to create a branded space that felt aligned with the event’s energy by helping their brand stand out from other booths.
Artist Activations, Pop Up Events, and Public Art Installations
One of the most significant advantages of working with inflatable installations is the ability to “hijack” public spaces without leaving a permanent footprint. You can take over a city park in the morning and have the site cleared by midnight.

IDG has worked with artists such as Jason Hackenwerth over the years to create inflatable sculptures that transform public areas into something unexpected, drawing crowds and creating a shared experience. Similarly, the collaboration between David LaChapelle and Smirnoff resulted in the “You’re In My Head” installation for Smirnoff’s Midnight Circus event. This inflatable installation traveled to 25 cities worldwide and allowed fans to walk through a double-sided interactive piece. This level of portability makes a huge difference and would be difficult to achieve with traditional materials, both in cost and logistics.

Highlighting the portability of inflatable installations is the Disney+ Day pop-up event. This activation included multiple replicas of well known icons and traveled between Nashville, New York City, and Santa Monica within the same week. The inflatable characters and symbols seemed to pop up overnight, creating surprise moments for people who happened to be there. Just as quickly as they arrived, they were gone and moving on to the next city.

Why Inflatable Installations?
Inflatable installations are the perfect balance of logistics and visual impact. From a practical standpoint, they offer:
- Logistical Ease: Inflatables deflate into a fraction of their size. This makes shipping and storage simple, easy, and cost-effective.
- Speed of Setup: A small package can become a giant landmark in a matter of minutes, not days.
- Versatility: Inflatables allow for organic, curved shapes, and intricate character details that are difficult and costly to replicate with “hard” traditional materials

Whether you are looking to take over a city skyline for a night or create a touring immersive experience that visits dozens of locations around the world, the flexibility of inflatable installations is unmatched.
