In 2020, Adult Swim picked up the adult cartoon Tuca & Bertie after Netflix canceled it. After much fan anticipation, the second season of Tuca & Bertie premiered on Adult Swim in June 2021.
Adult Swim is known for promoting their shows in unique and creative ways. Their promotional campaign for Tuca & Bertie was no different.
IDG worked with Adult Swim to bring their show off the screen and into the real world by creating giant custom inflatable replicas of the show’s title characters, anthropomorphic birds Tuca and Bertie.
Two sets of giant custom inflatables were created. Each set consisted of four separate inflatables, Tuca, her pool float, Bertie, and her inner tube. One set of inflatables was sent to New York while the other set went to Los Angeles.
On Saturday, June 12th and Sunday, June 13th (premiere day) the giant custom inflatable character replicas of Tuca and Bertie were pulled on giant barges up and down the coasts of Los Angeles and New York city. The giant inflatables were hard to miss. People in both cities took lots of pictures and posted them to social media, accomplishing Adult Swim’s goal of increasing awareness of the show’s premiere.

On July 22nd and 23rd, the giant inflatable Tuca & Bertie floating activation was back in action for Comic-Con 2022. This time, Tuca and Bertie floated through the San Diego Bay, advertising the popular Adult Swim show at the biggest comic convention in the United States. Even Tiffany Hadish, who plays the voice of Tuca, spotted the inflatable and stopped to take a picture with it.
